What is Ciber?

CIBER is the largest research center in Biomedicine in Spain with 511 research groups, selected on the basis of their scientific excellence. It is structured in 13 Thematic Areas (see Research Topics) and has a staff of 800 appointed and around 6.000 attached researchers, associated with 104 different Consortium Institutions (universities, research centers, and hospitals). CIBER was set up under the initiative of the Carlos III Health Institute of the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Ministry of Health to promote research excellence in biomedicine and health sciences both in the National Health and the Science and Technology Systems.

CIBER is an international reference in research and innovation with a dynamic interdisciplinary knowledge network consisting of academic and clinical research groups.

CIBER is distributed through Spanish geography offering an exciting range of research opportunities not only in prominent urban hubs but also in smaller pleasant cities. With a strong presence in vibrant cities like Barcelona, home to an impressive 156 research groups, and Madrid, hosting 110 research groups, CIBER provides a dynamic environment for academic pursuits. Additionally, medium-sized cities such as Valencia, with approximately 30 research groups, Sevilla with 15 groups, and Zaragoza with 12 groups, offer significant prospects for collaboration and intellectual growth. Even in smaller cities like Pamplona, with 12 research groups, Granada with 9 groups, and San Sebastian with 5 groups, CIBER proves its commitment to fostering innovation and research excellence throughout the nation. CIBER Consortium Institutions are academic institutions, hospitals, or research centers, and either way they are committed to providing hosting, support, and coaching to the Fellows.

Research Facilities

By working at CIBER, researchers are granted access to cutting-edge infrastructure. CIBER gathers some of the most important research facilities for biomedicine in Spain, directly participating in more than 17 technology and research platforms (e.g. the Unique Scientific and Technological Infrastructure for the Production and Characterization of Nanomaterials, Biomaterials and Systems in Biomedicine (NANBIOSIS), the National Platform of Biobanks and Biomodels, the Bioinformatics Platform, the Mental Health & Disability Instruments Library, the BiblioPRO online library of PROMs and PREMs).
